FAQ’S

About Jenny & Her Approach

What is your teaching philosophy?
My approach is child-centred and highly individualised. I take time to understand each young person, their strengths, interests, and the way they experience learning. I value pupil voice and see behaviour as a form of communication. When a child feels heard and supported, they are far more able to engage and make meaningful progress.

What ages and abilities do you work with?
I work with children and young people across a wide range of ages and abilities. Much of my work focuses on those who may not be thriving in traditional settings, including children with additional needs.

Do you specialise in any particular learning needs?
Yes, I have extensive experience supporting children with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety related to learning or school.

How do you adapt your teaching for different needs?
I tailor each session carefully. This might include using hands-on resources, breaking learning into manageable steps, adjusting the environment, or making small but effective adaptations, such as changing the presentation of materials—to ensure the child can access and understand the work.

What does “child-centred learning” look like in practice?
It means starting with the child: listening to them, building trust, and adapting my teaching so it works for them. It’s about flexibility, responsiveness, and creating a space where they feel safe to learn.

Yes, I can support exam preparation where needed, always ensuring the child feels confident and secure in their understanding.

Home schooling

How do I get started with home schooling?
Starting can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t need to be. I can guide you through the process, helping you understand your options and create a plan that suits your child and your family.

Do I need to follow the National Curriculum?
No. Home schooling allows flexibility. The most important thing is that your child is receiving an education that is suitable for their age, ability, and needs.

Can you help me design a curriculum?
Absolutely. I work with families to create personalised learning plans that are both engaging and realistic.

How many hours per day should my child be learning?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The focus should be on quality rather than quantity, and on maintaining a positive relationship with learning.

Can home schooling be temporary?
Yes, many families choose home schooling as a short-term solution, and I can support both temporary and longer-term arrangements.
